The 2nd Cambridgeshires were defending Batu Pahat, on the Malay mainland about 35 miles north west of the island of Singapore.
About to be cut off by a Japanese landing, they were ordered on 28th January 1942 to retreat to Johor Bahru to try and
stop the Japanese from crossing to Singapore.
